Not From Maldive
Identifying with Moldovans in the US and understanding the frequent mix-ups about their origin, we conceptualized a humorous yet relatable short film titled “Not From Maldive”. The setting—a casual parking lot in Chicago—offered the ideal backdrop for two Spanish-speaking protagonists to discuss their identity challenges. Their subsequent misidentification of two Moldovan men’s origin becomes the ironic twist, mirroring the very issue the Moldovan diaspora often face.
Marrying authenticity with cinematic elegance was key. We employed advanced video production techniques to achieve this balance. The use of a popular track by Moldovan singer, Carla’s Dreams, was a stroke of genius—a move that necessitated extensive coordination and negotiation with the artist’s management. But the reward was immense, as the song’s familiarity added a layer of resonance and nostalgia to the video.
Upon its release on the Moldovan American Convention’s Facebook page, the video’s reception was nothing short of phenomenal. Its relatability, combined with the familiar tunes of Carla’s Dreams, meant that the video was widely shared, discussed, and celebrated. Comments poured in, with many Moldovans recounting their similar experiences in the US.
The video strategy we employed was not just about creating content—it was about sparking conversations and building community. This cinematic production became an emblematic representation of the convention that year, with its message reaching corners of the US where the Moldovan community thrived.
Our first collaboration with the Moldovan American Convention was both challenging and exhilarating. “Not From Maldive” became the catalyst, marking the beginning of our creative journey with the convention. However, our involvement didn’t stop there.
Recognizing the need for a broader reach, we introduced live streaming for the convention—a first in its history. This not only elevated the event’s accessibility but also magnified its digital footprint.
Our integrated approach, combining the allure of creative ads with the immediacy of live streaming, has redefined how the Moldovan American Convention connects with its audience.
